Restoration

I am known for my figurative carving and modelling, and also for my decorative painting and mural work. Most of my commissions have been in the sphere of traditional art restoration, made "in the style of" different historic periods. These images show most recent projects first going back to 1984. Some were contributions to major restoration projects, and others private commissions or portraits.

Having concentrated on two-dimensional work in my training, my first carved commission came in my early thirties: to carve a life-size lime-wood version of the Raphael painting, the ‘Bridgewater Madonna’, for the present owners of Bridgewater House, London. The carving is sited in the private chapel. In 2003/4, I modeled missing figures and lions as part of the £42 million pound restoration of the London Coliseum (present home of the ENO). Other commissions include a new terracotta capitol for the exterior of the Natural History Museum to my own design, as well as many murals for exhibitions within. Even more recently I painted some Elizabethan style wall decorations for a 1540s Sussex private home. So the work is always varied.

I generally have a figurative project on the go, whether to commission or for exhibition. None of the work in this section is for sale, but there a few examples in Gallery work. Please use the contact page to view prices or to receive a free quote.
